being a jehovah's witness at any time and at any level is a major head f*ck.
the reason is that it obscures what is important and causes you to focus on what doesn't matter.. i've moved on from my jw experience.
it's a shame that i found myself a born in, taught to focus on things that don't matter.
AllTimeJeff
This is a brilliant post. Its human nature that sometimes we get lost in things that don't really matter, everyone is different but it is important to stay focused on the issues that really matter
My observation is that because people have repressed so many true emotions, when they first come out it does take them a long time to lose the anger and reset what is really normaility and what really is important.
Everyone is different and there is no set time for how long this takes.........
before the age of enlightenment the earth was filled with many nations living under vastly differing beliefs about the world.. tribes, nations and empires possessed fanciful superstitious beliefs about their own importance in the big picture.. religion helped man find a place among fearful gods and demons.
faith and belief, ritual and performance duties, helped man allay fears by.
becoming active in appeasing the gods and shunning the evil spirits.. judaism allowed adherents a means of ridding themselves of sin (animal sacrifice) and accounting for wrongs (justice via law).. christianity removed animal sacrifice and substituted fealty to the church (catholic).
intellect has always been there, what your are refering to is the filter/choke you applied to it.
something jws say that to a lot to people who have left or are leaving the org.. i find it very a very ironic statement since the wt and awake, or any wt literature for that matter, is never critical of itself and never directly addresses refutation of their doctrine and predictions.... i was raised a witness, as many of you were.
i have been subjected to "one-side-of-the-coin" for almost 2 decades!
the only true way to bring balance to my information is to look at the other side of the coin and give it great consideration.... -sab.
Your headline is EXACTLY what my MIL says when I point out the failings of the JWs!
But its not as if they can refute the claims. Many are shown in their own publications and proof is there in their face. But its far easier to claim that the person pointing out the issues is only looking at the critial things as then they don't have to admit they could be wrong or that the WT is wrong!
My wife once said the same and I used to getting all side of the picture and making an informed decision, she got that but it doesn't mean she is going to read both sides of the arguement.
hi all.. i have to attend a special assembly on saturday "take refuge in jehovah".. has anyone been to this yet....what can i expect?.
here is the line up...... 9:40 song and prayer.
9:50 why do we need a refuge?
My Wife and MIL went to this however I have the impress their timetable looked more like below!
9:40 Song and Prayer
9:50 Wife struggling to stay awake
10:30 MIL uncomfortable from the seating
10:55 Wife popping candy to stay awake and thinking of all the chores that need to be done
11:05 MIL is feeling tired
11:35 Wife and MIL have left the building
12:05 Pavarotti on the car stereo
1:30 Home
Whilst they were getting their spritual food at the right time
My timetable looked more like this:
9:40 Let Dogs Out
9:50 Let Dogs in and settle on sofa with breakfast and coffee to watch the football
10:30 Check evony and send out another wave of attackers on the red flag near me, returning to sofa
10:55 Answer door to find two witnesses there grinning and asking after the MIL and if they can come in? Mean while one of the dogs is barking like crazy and dispite multiple request for them to close the storm door they don't and can't seem to understand why I am being short with them. Explain that MIl is not there and gone to the assembly and no they are not comming in. This seems to bother them. Explain I am sleeping off my jet lag and MIL is not there. Witness then tries to start conversation on how MIL is? Explain MIL is fine and ask if there was any message? Witness gives over KM sheet. Take magazine, say goodbye and shut door. Leave magazine on chair and dog sniffs paper before shaking head and making sure the intruders leave her territory.
11:05 Return to sofa mumbling something about "don't they know there is a match on" and some other more apt explitives
11:35 Check evony again and head for shower
12:05 Head back to sofa to watch Battle of Britain movie
1:30 MIl and Wife arrive home
Give MIL slightly damp from dog slobber KM sheet!
has anyone had the experience of their pet being saved by a blood transfusion?.
a lovely down to earth couple in my old congregation allowed a transfusion for their dog when it developed life threatening complications after surgery.
lo & behold the transfusion did actually save the dog's life.
Blondie
If I understood that correctly they are suggesting......
1. Blood Transfusions for pets is a no no.
2. You should not feed pets the blood of other animals even in pet food.
3. You should not use fertilizer with blood in it
4. You should not take produce that has been given fertilizer made using blood.
They really are quite nuts! I would love to see them try and enforce this one! Maybe they should all go vegan, but even then they can't be sure if the fertilizer has blood products in it!
yes-lotta nonsense; a self-proclaimed "slave class" that is not a prophet but like a prophet, giving so awfully embarrasing opinions that are supposed to be automatically acceted by all of us jws...pretenders...mistakes... and moves not "discreet" at all- like the ngo united nations membership they secretly had for awhile....terrible, isn't it?.
i mean, look at the inspiring example we have in churchianity: such wonderful dogma- such as the three sadist-gods who have been torturing billions of men, women, and children for thousands of years- with eternity to go...and god making the universe in 72 hours...and backing the wars of their governments- "god and country!
", as they send their men out to war, telling them they will be blessed for it, and so many more wonderful revelations: the rapture, once-saved, tithing, etc.
1- Kingdom Halls with no collections, tithing, nor paid clergy; why even marriages and funerals are FREE!
I saw a kingdom hall collection box. I also remember watching the nodding of the dubs as the brother from the bethel said they should give to help the activities of the world wide org!
2- The Truth about God, Christ, the spirit, the Kingdom, the dead, Hell, Resurrection, God's Purposes, and so much more TRUTH taught and PROVEN!
Proven? Proven how?
3- FREE Bibles and any tolls needed.
The Gideons give out free bibles in hotels, no catch.
4- The most HONEST and ACCURATE of all translations (none of the churchoids here have been ABLE to to any example of mistake)
Please don't make me laugh! What about the 238 times Jehovah has been inserted into the bible where it didn't exsist?
5- The Love we have for each other, as well as God and Christ: Love is CATCHING, and my WQTBS promotes it
Love? Love providing the WBTS says its ok to give and doesn't interfere with WBTS activities?
6- The backing and the training that enables us to ACTUALLY OBEY Christ's command to preach the Good News of the Kingdom to the World! (Not pay clergy to do it in fancy church buildings.)
Christ explicitly said that life was more important that law, as you don't obey this one your claim you OBEY Christ's command is a little off the mark.
7- It promotes very healthy and strong families in my experience.
This could well be the case in YOUR experiences. Given. However many here will disagree with that statment including me from MY experiences
8- There are a lot of sincere people who are trying to understand the Bible the best they can and, annoying as it might be, are trying
to help other people to have the same understanding and hope they have. Among the R&F, there is a lot of sincerity and good intentions.
Yes, but do you think some of the those good intentions are misplaced due to the BS fed to them by this so call religion?
9- Helps people who need a concrete, structured direction and hope regarding their life/death/etc.
And what about more free spritied? Doesn't really work for them does it? Then its more of a crushing blow to their hopes and dreams!
10- There is a lot of brotherly "care" for certain ones. If someone gets surgery, they'll have a line of hot meals for a month.
If someone gets old, they'll have people to cut their lawn and look after them.
Okay, now I really going to have to call BS on you here. My MIL went to pick up her friend to take her to memorial. MIL is 85 and whilst not a cripple, not in super shape and she is carrying her friend who is 79 and virtually crippled into the car and taking her to the hall. None of the brother's helped while my wife and I went and rescued them as they staggered in the door!
Example 2, MIL was living on her own and none of the brother's or sister came to see if she was ok in the winter or offer to shovel the drive, why because family can take care of those things! My MIL who is hardcore and truely is sincere and of good intentions even says the same when she hears on of her friends from the hall has heating problems and its -40C and I offered to help out!
So again I say BS!
11- They do have a "worldwide brotherhood" in a sense. They know they can go to Moscow or Santiago, walk in a KH, and probably
have a bunch of friendly faces, a free meal, maybe even a place to stay the night just because they are a JW.
Obviously you have never been to Russia! I am guessing you might be in the states? Have you ever left the states? Do you have a passport?
12- Prejudices are destroyed; no racial, financial, educational or any other divisions.
Ok so you not prejudice against gays and lesbians?
so, darth plaugeis (or however you spell it) has suggested that the best way to get out of going to the meeting is to tell your wife that it's time to get ready for the meeting, and when her back is turned hit her over the head with a large object.. i'm sure there are better ways to get out of going.
i'm looking for some real ideas here.
" i like the whole getting your wife (or husband) drunk before the meeting so they won't want to go idea.
Try the fun route!
KH or go and do something fun and nice!
the mr is a jw-started back into studying 3 years ago, got baptized 2 years ago.
i've never been one, nor have an interested (was raised catholic, now am a pagan - uu).. i'm just starting this thread to see how you all deal with it.. thanks.
libelle.
You called my name so here I am!
Living with a JW can be hard at times, frustrating at others and sometimes you will want to cry.
The person you married is still there, but the borg is reprogramming them to become a shell of their former self and repress any emotion or self thought or actions. One of the things you need to find out or tap into is what was missing that made him go back?
Emotions are however extremely powerful! Use them, use the words I feel sad when he goes off to field service, or I feel happy when he comes out and does something fun with you. Get him to feel empathy for you, if you can do this then you are winning as he will then start to think about yours and others feelings.
The most important thing is to maintain respect for him and ensure he maintains repsect for you. Yes you might think he belongs to a crazed cult (which he does btw), but if you belittle it at every given moment, then you might push him towards it more.
If you allow his religion to start controlling what you believe and can and cannot do, everything will fall apart. I let my wife and MIL not allow me to celebrate Christmas and trust me, it was not a good day when your own beliefs are crushed.
I can't tell you a magic answer, everyone is different but its always good to have an outlet for the anger when they have drunk too much of the kool aid!

i wonder if the wtbs ever quoted from him based on his prior belief.
.
YES! Public watchtower August 1st! This is going to be a classic!
Maybe you should ask a dub what they think of Stepehn Hawking and then point out the watchtower quote him as a reputable source!
Classic!
